My name is Grace Lossman and I am Computer Professional with an M.S. in Physics. My passion has always been Classical Music, in particular, Opera and, hence, the name Belcanto (beautiful song in Italian) seemed appropriate for this highly intelligent, beautiful, hard-working breed. Standard Poodles were originally Retrievers and Gun Dogs developed in Germany.

Belcanto has been raising, training, breeding and showing Standard Poodles for almost 12 years now. Before Standard Poodles were German Shepherd Dogs and a rather funny story about our transition to poodles. A friend had suggested for years that "...I was the perfect person to work with a Standard Poodle". I had always pooh-poohed the idea, citing that poodles were just too foofoo a dog for my taste -- I was much better with a hardworking Germanic breed, I said. Finally after this conversation was repeated on occasion time after time over a period of almost 15 years, I vowed I would put it to rest by seeking out a Standard Poodle and learning more. Well, that was quite the end of it as I fell deeply and hopelessly in love with the greatest breed on this planet!
